Welcome from the President

I am excited to serve the ISCA membership as your President

2016-17 will be my 17th year as a school counselor, serving students in elementary and middle school.  I love being able to work with kids who make me feel like a rock star every day!   I have truly fallen in love with elementary kiddos and feel blessed to have a job that I love!

My husband Kevin and I have been married for 22 years.  Kevin is a real estate broker, appraiser, auctioneer and farmer, besides being an awesome husband and father.  We have 3 daughters who keep us very busy.  Hannah will be a junior at Grand Canyon University this fall majoring in secondary education and youth ministry.  Ellie will be a sophomore this fall at University of Sioux Falls where she will be majoring in business administration and marketing.   Natalie will be entering high school this fall, where she keeps  busy with band, archery and trap shooting.  Our family enjoys horseback riding, shooting archery and hanging out together.  My hobbies include reading, repurposing furniture and baking gourmet cupcakes.

When I think about all the changes that have taken place during my years as a school counselor, I get excited as I can only imagine where we are going in the future.  School counselors have an important role to fill in helping students meet their needs and fulfill their potential.  ISCA gives us many opportunities to help counselors find the tools and gain new skills to help our students.  I would encourage all counselors to take advantage of the opportunities that ISCA has to offer, whether it be attending conference or running for a board position.  Getting involved and networking with others helps us, and in turn helps the students we serve.
